Lest We Forget

The time-zone my job has just taken me to and also the out-of hours work I’m doing now means that I’m horribly late blogging about something I care about enormously.

James Cleverly posted the picture which I snaffled and there are, I’m delighted to see, tens of thousands of other posts out there marking this day. If you have a few electrons to spare then click Lakelander for an understated-yet-hits-you-in-the-guts post (maybe more so if you had a grandfather there as I did – just look at the photo and imagine) but if that doesn’t then Google for First World War poetry and you’re going to be moved if you have a pulse.

One of the strangest stories is the one behind the origin of the Unknown Soldier. It’s in the Telegraph and elsewhere and is truly fascinating.

Stand with our veterans – from all of our wars whether you agree with the particular conflicts or not. They are our heroes sent by our politicians in to harms way.

Never forget.
