Seve Ballesteros: A Tribute
…but not in quite the way you’d imagine. From ThisIsGloucestershire, one of the most tenuous articles TheEye has spotted in years.
Might as well quote the whole thing so that you don’t think you’re missing anything of the detail:
OWNERS of parrot Seve Ballesteros have today said they were shocked at news of the death of their pet’s namesake.
Taffy Howells, who named six-year-old parrot Seve Ballesteros after the “the king of European golf”, said: “I heard the news this morning.
“I was shocked really. I was really really upset.
“He’s been an ambassador for golf. He won three majors”.
Taffy, from Linden, added that his parrot was still doing well.
“He’s not behaving himself though,” he added.
Seve Ballesteros died at his home in Spain. He was 54.
He had fought a long battle after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2008.
He passed away in the early hours of this morning due to respiratory failure.
Splendid. The family will have felt so honoured.
Seve Ballesteros, who passed away at the weekend was buried in Spain on Wednesday, with all due Golfing “ceremony” ..
After cremation, the urn containing his ashes is to be placed in the same grave as his father .. but directly on top ..
So that, even in death Seve will forever be “One over Pa” ..

I don’t follow golf at all, but memory eternal to Mr. Ballesteros.

I’m not a follower of golf either Karen, but he was fascinating (especially in my part of the world) for being one of the first post-Franco generation of modern Spanish celebrities.
He was a great ambassador for a country just emerging from a dark period in its history. And for that part of his appeal the non-golfers of this world will also mourn him.

Watching the golf last night when the commentators were discussing the unfortunately named US player Brian Gay. “He is the straightest player on the course this week” said one. “Especially with the Irons” replied the other.
Cue childish giggling from me.
