Low Carbon Sunday Lunch

This Sunday – 10/10/10 – I hope you’ll consider a Sunday lunch with a twist. Tomorrow is the 10:10 campaign’s global day of doing, designed to get us thinking about how we might cut our carbon footprint by 10% over the next year. The campaign, started by Franny Armstrong, director of The Age Of Stupid, is now a worldwide movement.
10:10 wants as many people as possible to send in pictures of their low-carbon Sunday lunch tomorrow – email photos@1010global.org.
TheEye feels very strongly about this and will be taking part. Unfortunately the local butcher can’t get hold of any Javan Rhino steaks in time, but nevertheless it’s still decent barbecue weather in Gibraltar…

Does this count as a “Low Carbon Sunday Lunch”??
As current atmospheric CO2 levels are low compared with what’s been recorded historically, I do feel it’s necessary to make a contribution to getting them back up.
So – Beef from Argentina, green beans from Kenya, and strawberries from Israel (well, the beans are green, so where’s the problem?). Oh, and topped off with a bottle of Australian shiraz.
Anyone noticed that the Guardian/Observer today has wine correspondent David Williams’ Wine of the Week as “A Tempting Trio From Chile”?

I think a photo of a bottle of London gin, a small bottle of Schweppes tonic and some lemon slices would be appropriate for her low carbon Sunday lunch don’t you think? Oh, I omitted the ice. 🙂

That’s the one reason I like the idea of having food labelled with its ‘footprint’ or whatever it’s called – so you can have competitive dinners for whose has come the furthest. Score the most furlongs per fortnight and you’re out of the wine bill kitty.
G&T is a food group all to itself. Although I’d have to call Bombay Sapphire by preference.
The big advantage of swapping lime for lemon every other drink is you get 2 of your 5 a day rather than just one.
Interesting thought about the Jewish holiday similarity. I bet they’d hate that connection but equally I’m sure Day of Atonement crossed their minds.
We’re having home-grown salad sandwiches (to keep the food-miles down) outdoors tonight.
It’ll probably get a bit chilly, so I’ve got a couple of LPG patio heaters to keep us warm.
Good effort. Leave the patio doors open too, because the heat from the house will help keep the garden warm.

I’m a failure – I thought I would do my bit increase the CO2 levels, and take Ma & Pa out for drive, seeing as the weather’s nice. Despite doing 70-80 mph on the dual carriageways his Honda Jazz was showing 51.3mpg when we got home, AND we had the aircon on!! I very much doubt that a Pious would have done better, but then we didn’t have a bloody great battery pack and motor to lug around.
Still, he fired the BBQ up for tea….
There’s no failure in that. No failure at all.
Remember, as the warmists themselves say – it doesn’t matter whether its a big or a small gesture, every contribution makes a difference.

It’s all very well for you lot to make sarky comments but I don’t particularly like having a spike down my throat and up my backside with other sensitive parts over hot coals. Apart from that, it is a rather good picture of me – indeed, I would call it crackling.
