DAME VERA WEIGHS IN…
DAME VERA LYNN is urging officials to rethink plans to sell the Port of Dover to foreign investors, insisting it’s a part of history. A spokesperson for the Port of Dover has denied reports the area itself will be sold to owners of the Port of Calais, in France, but admitted the ferrying business is to be offered for purchase. And the White Cliffs of Dover hitmaker is heartbroken by the prospect. She says, “I would feel very differently about it. The port should absolutely stay in British hands. It always has been and it should always be. It means so much to the boys who have sailed away from it and come back. “How could they even think about selling it off? It is not right. Dover is part of England. It simply can’t be part of anywhere else.”
