Funny; I wonder if they have ever tested nicotine on mice? I ask this because a random study done in the US a couple of years ago showed that the inmates of old folks homes showed a 60% reduction in insidence of senile dementia among those who had smoked all their lives, as opposed to those who never smoked. The downside of course was that smokers had a rather shorter life-span, but at least their illness was short, and they died with their brains intact, istead of dragging on for decades. NHS costings… take note.
It’d be interesting to see a study on mice if your recollection of that study is mirrored because there would be no other factors involved…the old folks home would be skewed by gender, social background, sample size issues etc etc. Examining the basic pathology would be useful, if only to give us a more balanced view of smoking.
Frankly the exciting live fast, try everything, take no prisoners die young theory is absolutely splendid until it gets to the last bit.

I have visions like that after drinking absinthe, which is probably not a good sign.
