Tiger Woods And The UK Injunction

December 11, 2009 at 5:59 pm

Just in case anybody cares, Tiger Woods has obtained an injunction in the UK and elsewhere to ban something, and we aren’t allowed to know what it is. The BBC is, quite responsibly, being very coy about what the injunction covers because the injunction also covers what the injunction covers. If that makes sense. TheEye isn’t because it doesn’t apply out here.

So for anyone who is bothered, Playgirl Magazine claim that they have naked pictures of Tiger Woods and may publish them if they can verify their authenticity. A “third party” is selling the photos, and a Playgirl spokesman said, “Our lawyers are currently going over them, the source, the entire package.”

Woods’ lawyers are fighting back globally and have obtained an injunction in the UK against the publication of any nude pictures. The order was imposed by High Court Justice David Eady at the request of the law firm Schillings, which represents Woods in Britain. Using sneaky lawyer talk, they aren’t acknowledging that any naked pictures actually exist, but they don’t want those pictures with his likeness published, photoshopped or not. In the internet age, there aren’t enough lawyers in the world to stop the distribution of naughty pictures if they exist. Doubtless we’ll all be underwhelmed to find out either way pretty sharpish.

UPDATE: Here’s a pdf of the full injunction itself. This interweb thingy’ll never catch on.
