RADIO RADIO
Most of us like to drive along with the radio on – it passes the journey! I’ve been driving long enought to have witnessed vast technical and aesthetic improvement in the state of car radios and the new ones are great. But, of course, that just can’t last under this great government we have and so it is worth pointing out that drivers who have splashed out on a new motor recently thanks to the Government’s ‘scrappage’ scheme are already facing a costly technical upgrade – because their radios will soon be obsolete.
Most new cars are still fitted with traditional FM radios which will be useless when the Government turns off the analogue signal and switches over to digital in just five years’ time.
So come 2015, these radios will end up dumped – for which I am sure we will asked to cough up an extra environmental tax! It’s the DAB revolution – we are informed by the experts and the parroting politicos – with crystal clear sound as the prize. But is that really the case and why does FM have to be sacrificed?
DAB isn’t that great at all – it’s compressed to hell. This rotten government just has to change everything for the sake of being seen as always going forward – regardless! Plus, of course, there will be a pretty penny to be made from freeing up the frequencies for whoever has the money to pay them!

I had an insurance courtesy Mondeo for a few days; it had DAB which was rubbish, blind spots all over the place, even Beeb Radio kept fading out.
