Wimbledon commences tomorrow as British summer officially arrives. Must admit to enjoying the game and the next fortnight should prove very interesting. Of course the main focus for the British media will be whether Andy Murray can become the first Brit to win the men’s singles for the first time since Fred Perry. I wish him well although to be honest I find him a charmless creature and I will not be remotely bothered if he is knocked out before he gets to week two. As a connoisseur of tennis, however, I will be keeping an eye on the more graceful aspects of the game, exemplified by Romanian player Simona Halep. She is the sort of Romanian we need to see more of, in my view, and I therefore hope she can make an impact on court next week.
