Ditching Sterling
No, not in favour of the Euro, which will upset Lord Fondlebum of Boys and Hartlepool. A website is offering painstakingly detailed replicas of Colonial Currency used in the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica. Considering that the UK is very likely to lose our AAA credit rating in the next few years, even if the Conservatives win and win well, maybe it’s worth stocking up on these instead?
The reference to Battlestar Galactica, though, also gives a perfect excuse for a gratutitous picture of Cylon No6, Tricia Helfer. If this is the face of alien invasion, then bring it on….
Back in the 1970’s I used to collect “Confederate” currency banknotes from bubblegum wrappers, wish I still had them since it might have fooled a few idiots when the £ goes tits-up, mind you, we could alays try Monopoly money.

Now that is a blast from the past. A bit of searching came up with:
“In England in 1964, replicas of Confederate notes were included in packs of chewing gum as part of a promotion by ABC Chewing Gum of Romford, Essex (see F. Philipson’s article, “A Sticky Confederate Issue,” in the June 1974 issue of Bank Note Reporter).”
Bank Note Reporter, eh? I think I’ve thrown out the June ’74 edition…can’t find it…maybe I finished the crossword that month.
For morbid interest I’ll have to check eBay to find out if these notes are the sort of thing which, when taken in to the Antiques Roadshow in mint condition transform usually mild mannered children into crazed inheritance-seeking parent-killers.
