Ghosts Of World War 2
Just a random site which TheEye saw today and liked. Russian photographer Sergey Larenkov has taken old World War II photos and photoshopped them over the locations in present day. The scenes from Prague, Vienna, and Moscow make an interesting and unusual way to appreciate history.
It’s a fascinating use of Photoshop – seeing the conditions of the streets and buildings merged straight into modern times. Some of the other pictures are not the most skilled graphical work by a long way, but from this idea you really get a sense of how the world was at the time.
Great idea, brilliantly executed, each one of his pictures was well worth examination.
A very interesting concept .. I would imagine London, Coventry, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Malta etc could provide equally fascinating material ..
Elsewhere on his site he’s got pictures where he’s ‘shopped a photograph being physically held up over a modern scene. He’s hit on a really net idea of merging past and present. I like it.
Yes, I can just imagine the picture of Pompey as a run-down, cratered depressing mess. Not sure where you’d impose the older picture so as you’d notice it though 🙂
Seriously – that’s true. There would be great material to be had there as well.
