Gibraltar News: Justice Minister Stabbed
Gibraltar news today, so this is one for our local readers; but of a serious nature.
Justice Minister Daniel Feetham was stabbed in the back yesterday in an “unprovoked” attack in broad daylight in front of his children. He’s in a serious but stable condition in St Bernard’s Hospital and his life is not in danger.
A local man was arrested by police after passers by intervened and detained him following the attack. Although his identity hasn’t officially been released, he is on bail in connection with an attempted murder charge dating back to last year.
The incident happened near TheEye’s house at the top of Library Street just after 2pm when he was walking through the area with his children.
In a statement, No.6 Convent Place described the incident as “…an unprovoked attack in the street in which Mr Feetham was stabbed in the back with a long-bladed knife.”
“The incident was witnessed by Mr Feetham’s young children.”
“Mr Feetham’s injuries were serious but he is now in a stable condition and there is no fear for his life.”
Police detectives and forensics experts worked at the scene for several hours after the attack, collecting physical evidence and taking witness statements.
Blood smears on a white van parked on the hill bore testament to the violence of the attack.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Daniel.
