The Art Of Causing Offence And Naming Ships
Further evidence, if it were needed, that Obama and Brown are cut from the same military-despising cloth. It seems that the US Navy is planning to name the newest San Antonio class amphibious landing ship after corrupt, sleazy, traitorous politician John Murtha.
According to a Navy memorandum obtained by Navy Times, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus notified Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead that he had selected “John P. Murtha” for the previously unnamed LPD 26. It’s the latest example of the Navy breaking a convention for naming its warships; the previous ships in the San Antonio class have been named for American cities.
This move by an Obama appointee is a kick in the teeth to serving US military personnel because Murtha famously accused American Marines of “cold-blooded murder” for defending themselves against an attack by insurgents.
He was a disgrace to the uniform he wore in the Marine Corps and was caught red-handed in the Abscam investigation where FBI operatives posing as intermediaries for Saudi nationals bribed their way through the immigration process into the United States. He was also named by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington as one of the 20 most corrupt members of Congress and publically accused everyone who wasn’t prepared to vote for B Hussein Obama of being racist.
In short, he was an arse. And he gets a ship named after him. There’s a Royal Navy saying…you take your chance when you pick your Branch….well in the US Navy you also run the risk of serving on a ship named after someone who you would be quite right to despise.
Let’s keep away, in this country, from the temptation to name warships after politicians.
HMS Rocking Horse perhaps?

He’d never get the joke, though. There are lots of Lord Fondlebum jokes to be had too.
